Drinks Trade Regatta

For the third year in a row sailors at Clarke and Son joined fellow professionals from RSM at the annual Drinks Trade Regatta with guests from our industry friends at Beds and Bars, Rotech Keg Line Monitoring Systems, Feedback charity and Toast Ale.

The Drinks Trade Regatta offers brewers, suppliers and industry professionals the chance to get together once a year and take part in a series of races in the iconic waters of The Solent, as well as enjoying a gala dinner at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes.  This is a fantastic event which the teams look forward to each year.

This year 20 crews from the drinks and hospitality industry including Beds & Bars Group, C & C Magners, Youngs, Diageo, Sharps and Matthew Clarke battled it out for the title.

Despite the best efforts of the gallant crew, expertly guided by Sunsail skipper Martin and first mate Toby, the weather let them down, leaving them becalmed on the finishing line as team Zonal stole their wind and relegated team Clarke & Son/ RSM to second place.  Over the series the team scored scoring positions of second, third and sixth places leaving them in an overall position of 4th place after the calm conditions of Saturday restricted the regatta to four races from its usual seven. An improvement on last year’s eighth place finish but agonisingly outside of the top three prizes.

Corporate Commercial Partner, William Anderson, commented

“Despite missing out on the top three this year, the crew can be immensely proud of their achievements over the weekend. A lot of credit and thanks go to our Sunsail skipper, Martin, and first mate, Toby.

As always, the main thing with the regatta is that everyone involved has fun and gets the opportunity to mix with colleagues and friends in the industry outside of the confines of our day to day work, whilst raising money for charity that makes it all worthwhile. This year the crews donated £20,000 to worthwhile causes as nominated by the top three placing teams. Hopefully next year we can place and raise some money for our nominated charity.”

We look forward to taking part in this excellent event again next year.
