The Interview – communication is key

I have just watched the Oprah interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. It made me feel quite sad – for them and for our royal family. Communication between parties has clearly broken down somewhere. It just highlights though that family relationships can break down whether you are royal or not.

This is why it is so important to make sure that your Will is up to date, so that in the event you have some unresolved family issues – then these can be catered for in your Will. It is not easy to explain how family relationships break down but here at Clarke & Son we make sure you feel safe and that anything you say to your solicitor is held in confidence. There are issues in every family, mine included and there is no judgement here, purely a desire to help find a comfortable resolution. The same is true of powers of attorney. Choice is such an important tool, as is communication so better for you to choose who you would trust to act in their capacity as attorney for you, rather than leave it to chance or strangers.

The “interview” also highlighted the stresses people suffer with mental health. There should be no taboo about discussing your feelings any more. There are charities and trained people out there who can help; https://www.mind.org.uk/

If these musings have made you think of something going on in your own family, please do not hesitate to contact us here at Clarke & Son for further advice and support.
