The Pressure Surrounding A Will

older couple legal document

I was surprised at how sad I felt last month when I heard about the death of HRH Duke of Edinburgh, sadness for a man I never knew and had never met. I think there was an outpouring of grief from the nation as a whole for a family profiled so highly in the press and living life in the public eye.

Today, on my news feed, I see that same press commenting on the Duke’s Will and who will benefit from it and why. I must admit I find such commentary quite unsavoury. Wills by their nature remain private, but on death when they go to probate they become a public document, unless of course you are someone like a high ranking royal, where there are laws in place to protect their privacy.

I have always felt that making a Will can be quite a pressured process for some people, as they try and make sense of family dramas, do what they feel is right, protect their family and maintain their privacy and dignity. Having advised on Wills for over twenty years, I suspect there is not much that I hear that can now shock me as I have been confided in by my clients on all sorts of such matters over the years. It is so very important for you to be able to trust your adviser with the complex relationships that can form in families.

Here at Clarke & Son, we are not here to judge. We are here to support and help you find a satisfactory outcome to cover all sorts of family issues. These issues very often make you put off seeing someone about making a Will – please do not let anything deter you in such fashion. We are discreet and confident we can help you find the right solution for you and your family.
