Fundraising Target Achieved

Legal eagles smash £50,000 fundraising target for Ark

IT WAS an ambitious fundraising target – but legal eagles from a Basingstoke law firm have absolutely smashed their goal of raising £50,000 for Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

Clarke & Son Solicitors, based in Winchester Road, was one of the first Our Partner corporate supporters of the fledgling charity in February 2015 – and the company also supported Ark’s £5million appeal, which will help to fund a unique local cancer treatment centre, in 2016-17.

The staff set themselves a target of raising £50,000 for Ark over a three-year period – and this week they were delighted to reveal that the fundraising total has hit £55,204.87.

Charity golf days, a 24-hour rowathon and a Charity Ball have been among the key events that have pulled in thousands of pounds – and match-funding support from Greenham Trust through The Good Exchange funding platform was also key to helping the Clarke & Son team hit and surpass the £50,000 target.

The fundraising achievement was celebrated with the presentation of a giant cheque to Ark Cancer Centre Charity trustee Merv Rees, who is a driving force behind the cancer treatment centre project.

Darren Lovegrove, Marketing Manager at Clarke & Son, said: “The team are delighted to have hit this ambitious fundraising target, and we are grateful to our clients, business contacts, and the many other individuals who have supported our fundraising events over the last three years.

“The Clarke & Son team are passionate supporters of Ark, and we have decided to continue our fundraising into a fourth year with the goal of raising an additional £15,000 in 2018-19.”

Among the fundraising events this year will be a charity abseil down the Emirates Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, and a 25km River Thames Bridge Walk by a 20-strong team of fundraisers, while residential conveyancer Marie Pym will really be taking the fundraising drive to new heights as she takes part in a wing walk in August.

“The support from the Clarke & Son team has been absolutely awesome,” said Merv Rees. “The staff have really thrown themselves into fundraising for Ark, and their enthusiasm and achievement in terms of raising funds and awareness has really made a significant difference to the charity and cancer treatment centre project.

“Ark is proud and honoured to have had the backing of the Clarke & Son team for the last three years, and I am delighted and grateful that they have decided to continue their fundraising campaign into another year.”

The £5m that Ark Cancer Centre Charity is raising will ensure a range of support services and complementary therapies are available alongside chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments in a calm and uplifting environment.

Largely being funded by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT), plans are progressing to locate the new cancer treatment centre on the existing Basingstoke hospital site.

Ark’s fundraising total currently stands at £1.8m. You can find out more about the charity and cancer treatment centre project, including how to donate, by going to
